This is an engine testing and tear-down facility for use with the departmental internal combustion engines course. 3rd Year Students are able to test the performance of engines (e.g. obtaining power curves, fuel consumption and efficiency) and study the cut section model of engines to determine the factions of various components. Students study engines running on gasoline, diesel, propane and alternative fuels, and evaluate the relative benefits and of each with regard to power, efficiency and cost.

Students in 4th semester experiment with test rigs of air conditioners and refrigerators. The laboratory has (a) refrigeration test rig (b) air conditioning test rig and (c) electro-lux vapour absorption test rig. These types of test rigs are only available at the manufacturer’s premises. The manufacture and sale of refrigerators and air conditioners are an active and vibrant industrial activity and a large number of industries are associated with it. By working with these test rigs the students learns the practical use of the principles and practice of refrigeration, what are the various components used in manufacture of these machines and how they are assembled together as well their operation and maintenance.
